Description
moreThe 2024 Collector Edition Mission Rose Cabinet is a small piece that holds countless possibilities, perfect for use as an entry cabinet beneath a mirror, a bedside or chairside table, a linen cabinet, or even a miniature bar. Standing on light, tapered legs, the slender case of solid American white oak is defined by bold chamfered corners with rounded stops, honoring and modernizing a traditional carpenter's detail; other familiar Mission features include exposed pin joints and through-posts with subtle pyramidal tops. Inside, an adjustable shelf allows for customizable storage. And finishing the piece in breathtaking fashion, two large, slightly recessed inlays recreate an early Stickley Brothers design-itself influenced by British Art Nouveau-in beautiful decorative wood veneers.
THE STORY OF THE MISSION ROSE
This striking inlay motif was first used in a bedroom suite by Stickley Bros. of Grand Rapids, led by Albert Stickley (brother of Gustav and Leopold), in 1903. The design shows some influence of Scottish designer Charles Rennie Mackintosh, as well as British Art Nouveau, and may have been created by Stickley Bros. designers T.A Conti, known for his inlay work, and Scotsman David Robertson Smith.
